Urgent Call for Environmental Protection: make the EPBC Referral for Dittmer Project [Gold Mine]
Ballymore Resources proposed Dittmer Gold & Copper mine sits in two critical water catchments—the Great Barrier Reef (GBR) and Whitsunday water resources—yet no baseline hydrogeology report has been submitted.
Despite requiring large water quantities for ore processing, DESI has provided no water license or allocation data. No Environmental Impact Statement (EIS), Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA), or EPBC referral has been conducted in over a year, and Ballymore holds only an $18,000 surety.
Across the entire Dittmer Project there is no [EA] Environmental Authority requirement for groundwater monitoring.
Four Nationally endangered species, including the endemic Proserpine Rock Wallaby, live in Dittmer, and the Dittmer project poses a risk to their survival. DESI’s Environmental authority [EA] approval process appears to have overlooked application of legislation; such as critical principles like the Precautionary Principle and The principle of Intergenerational.Equity.
This E petition urges Minster Plibersek to make the EPBC referral under Section 70, triggering a full EIS. We beleive this should include independent assessments of Dittmer Projects impact upon endangered threatened species, human rights impacts, hydrogeology, water resources, and the Great Barrier Reef.
This petition calls for an injunction on any further activities by Ballymore until these studies are completed.
The studies have not been done.
Why not?
We want them done immediately.
